Is there any research to indicate what the Open Source CRM marketplace might look like in 2018? Everyone knows SugarCRM is the market leader, but does any research indicate they will remain the leader in 6 years? With the rise of so many solid open source CRM applications such as Zurmo (http://zurmo.org), I wonder if there will be anyone to challenge Sugar's top spot.
Thanks,
Ray

Fabulous document - thank you for presenting information in a non-biased, open manner. It makes the decision making so much easier when you take the names out of it!

Keep up the great work!

Cheers, Elena

Too bad I didn't see this blog article earlier. You pointed out some of the key issues that I ran into when I evaluated Salesforce vs. Microsoft CRM. Once the issues are clear, the base price becomes meaningless in the comparison. It would have saved me time that I spent testing and talking to both companies.

It's a case of price becoming meaningless when adoption is nonexistent due to drawbacks.

@GLComputing - thanks for pointing all these areas out! This also reinforces the fact that data migration is often a non-trivial process.

This is similar to the questions we ask when converting to ACT! ... a couple of things you've left out:
1. With Activities - are they using custom types and/or priorities
2. With Opportunities - do they also need Products or the master product list
3. With Groups - have they used Sub Groups
4. You left out Companies (and Divisions)
5. Have they created custom tables - if so, do they link to parent objects or independent (yes, Sage ACT! has allowed creation of custom related and independent lists since 10.02)
6. With all records and fields - are they using field or record security. If using security, should Private or Limited Access data be converted

Thanks, Jason. I did see a demo of touch.salesforce.com on the giant iPad, but missed the mention of Android support. I have updated the post.
